Green farewell: Ganesha idols immersed in artificial ponds
Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) in India set up artificial ponds for the eco-friendly immersion of Lord Ganesha idols during the 10-day celebration. More than 4,000 idols were immersed, with the highest number of immersions taking place on Thursday. While some devotees praised the efforts, others pointed out that the ponds were too small and urged LMC to construct larger ones. Similar initiatives were taken in cities like Surat, Delhi, and Hyderabad to prevent pollution during idol immersion.
Baby ponds ignored, PoP idols immersed in Hyd lakes
Despite the revival of 74 artificial ponds for Ganesh idol immersion, idols continue to be immersed in lakes and water bodies in Hyderabad. Concerns have been raised about the lack of monitoring and awareness among the public. Environmentalists also criticize the shallow depth of the artificial ponds. Similar initiatives have been taken in other cities such as Berhampur, Surat, and Nagpur, where artificial ponds are being created for idol immersion. The aim is to prevent pollution and promote safe disposal of idols during festivals.
