HC judges inspect Bhojshala-Kamal Maula mosque complex
Indore: Two judges of the Indore bench of MP high court on Saturday inspected the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque in Dhar district ahead of April 2 hearing, when suggestions and objections to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) report on the disputed monument will be examined. The HC had proposed the visit to the site without the presence of the respondents or the petitioners.Local officials said that the judges reached under tight security to the monument in the afternoon and spent nearly an hour, inspecting the monument that Hindu's claim is goddess Vaghdevi (Saraswati) temple and Muslims say is Kamal Maula Mosque.Dhar collector Priyank Mishra and superintendent of police Mayank Awasthi accompanied the judges during the visit to different parts of the monument, including the site where idol of Vaghdevi is believed to have been instituted, before being taken to British museum in London. The court is seized with the matter and is expected to hear objections, suggestions and recommendations on an ASI survey report that suggested that the monument was built using remains of Hindu temples during Parmara era.The ASI, through a 5-member expert committee, had conducted a 98-day scientific survey at the disputed complex following HC orders, deploying latest techniques involving GPR/GPS survey, photography, videography and carbon dating.
The court had also allowed a ‘right to audience' for a number of intervening applications and said the interveners will be heard during the next hearing and will be allowed to submit documents and affidavits, including one from one Qazi Moinuddin, who claimed to be a direct descendant of Kamal Maulana Chisti. The court will also hear a petition claiming existence of a medieval Jain temple and gurukul within the disputed monument in Dhar district.
