Indore: Continuing its crackdown against ‘ration-mafia’, Indore district administration on Tuesday seized two rickshaws and 13 quintals of rice meant to be distributed among BPL ration card holders.
According to ADM Abhay Bedekar, a team of the food safety officials, on complaint of illegal trade of PDS grains, seized two rickshaws, 1.6 quintals of rice, a weighing machine and a hand mike of total value of around Rs 3.23 lakh from Pawanpuri Colony. On the spot, one Wasim and Nasir failed to present any bill of the rice of PDS, which they later revealed to have purchased at Rs 10-11 per kg.
“Wasim and Nasir, during preliminary interrogation, revealed that they were transporting the rice to a grain merchant, Anwar’s shop situated in Jinsi area,” the senior administrative official said, adding that the team later carried out a search at the shop and seized a total 6.92 quintal of rice while Anwar’s representative, Ismail failed to presentpurchase bill.
The team also seized an autorickshaw loaded with around 4.55 quintal of rice along with a weighing machine and a hand mike, which was brought by one Babu Sheikh at Anwar’s shop.
“As per the initial investigation, Anwar was into illegal trade of purchasing rice of PDS,” he said, adding that an FIR at Malharganj police station has been lodged. TNN
