Day 2: CMRS conducts intensive passenger safety audit

Indore: The Commission of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and a specialised team of over 70 experts conducted a comprehensive audit of the newly-extended 17.5 km Metro stretch (specifically the 11.5 km segment from Super Corridor to Radisson Square) to assess passenger amenities and technical infrastructure on Monday. On the second day of the four-day inspection, the CMRS team travelled in the Metro to various stations, including Kumbhedi ISBT Metro station, to scrutinise high-traffic areas. The audit focused on critical safety features, including testing of emergency brake systems, fire safety equipment, and platform screen doors, along with inspection of lifts, escalators, ticketing systems and signage. Experts used ultrasonic testing equipment to verify the integrity of the cement-concrete used in the tracks and viaducts.The team paid special attention to track curves near Lavkush Square bridge, where they halted for an hour to ensure the strength and safety standards of the turns. Owing to the ongoing station work, the road from airport to Super Corridor has been closed indefinitely. Commuters have been advised to divert via Bijasan Mata temple road towards Dhar Road and take a U-turn to re-access the Super Corridor.With the first phase of inspection reporting no major flaws, project officials are optimistic. If the CMRS grants its nod, commercial operations on the 17.5 km route are expected to begin by the first week of April, providing a massive ridership boost and citywide connectivity.
