Indore: Results of first semester MBA and law courses at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyala (DAVV) were put on hold after pass percentage dropped to nearly 30 percent, prompting the university to order a fresh evaluation.
The move has affected nearly 21,600 students. Of them, around 9,600 appeared in BA LLB, BCom LLB and LLB first semester examinations, while about 12,000 students took the MBA core and MBA marketing examinations. Initial tabulation showed that only 31 to 33 percent of students passed in several subjects.

As per university policy, results falling below 40 percent are reviewed. Following this norm, answer scripts of eight subjects were sent to over 30 subject experts for re-evaluation. The move is expected to delay the declaration of results by nearly three weeks.
Examination controller Ashesh Tiwari said, "The pass percentage in certain subjects was unusually low. In such cases, it becomes our responsibility to review the evaluation process before publishing the results. We sent the answer scripts for a second round of assessment to ensure fairness. Students who missed passing by one or two marks will also be carefully reviewed," added Tiwari.
Educationists from the city said evaluation standards must be examined where results show a consistent decline. "If a pattern of low results continues for three years, there is a need to reassess both teaching methods and evaluation practices so that students are not disadvantaged by narrow margins," said educationist Mangal Mishra.
The university is also considering appointing additional evaluators and asking affiliated colleges to complete syllabi well before examinations and arrange remedial classes in subjects where failures are frequent.
