DAVV set for grand convocation with compressed ceremony today
Indore: A packed auditorium, rows of achievers in traditional Malwi attire and a tightly scripted academic ceremony will define Tuesday morning at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya as it hosts its annual convocation under an unusually strict time frame. The ceremony, scheduled at 11:30 am on the Takshashila campus auditorium, will be presided over by chancellor Mangubhai Patel, who will remain present for one hour and 15 minutes. The limited duration has led the university to redesign the sequence of events while retaining the academic solemnity of the occasion.
In a departure from past practice, medal winners will approach the dais in groups of two and three rather than individually. PhD scholars will also be called in batches to receive their degrees. University authorities said the change is purely procedural and will not affect the dignity of the ceremony.A total of 217 gold and silver medals will be conferred. Two scholars will receive the DLitt degree, while 220 research scholars will be awarded PhD degrees. Among the standout achievers, Sakshi Jain of BE civil engineering secured six gold medals for 2024-25, while Bhavya Tripathi from the same discipline earned five gold medals for 2023-24.The university announced a detailed traditional dress code. Female students will wear a white or cream saree or suit, and male students will attend in a white or cream pyjama kurta. All participants will wear the Malwi topi and uttariya, reflecting regional identity. Postgraduate students will don golden brown jackets with lemon yellow uttariya, undergraduates will wear orange uttariya, and PhD scholars will have cream uttariya. Dignitaries on the dais will appear in coordinated ceremonial jackets and golden uttariya.A full dress rehearsal was held on Monday, with medal recipients, research scholars, and officials walking through the revised sequence.
