Indore: A local court on Wednesday extended the police remand of the accused arrested in connection with Tonk Kalan firecracker factory blast that claimed eight lives earlier this month in Dewas district.
The accused were produced before the court, following which the remand of prime accused Anil and Ajaz was extended till May 30. Another key accused, Mukesh Vij, along with other arrested persons in the case, was sent to police remand till June 1.
Police said a case was registered against six people in connection with the blast and five accused have been arrested so far.
Investigators are continuing to question main accused Mukesh and claim to have gathered several crucial leads and evidence during interrogation. Police teams are now working to connect various aspects linked to the illegal operations and circumstances that led to the explosion.
Mukesh was arrested by Dewas police from Delhi airport while he was returning from China. Since his arrest, officials have been carrying out continuous interrogation.
Apart from local police, multiple agencies are also conducting parallel investigation and examining possible violations related to safety norms, permissions and manufacturing activities at the factory.
The massive explosion took place on May 14 at the firecracker factory. While eight labourers died in the incident so far, several injured continue to undergo treatment at private hospitals, with some stated to be in critical condition.
