Cops get cracking on criminals, drunk drivers in night-long checks
Indore: A sweeping late-night enforcement drive across the city saw police teams tighten the screws on habitual offenders, anti-social elements and drunk drivers, with action taken against 389 individuals during surprise checks carried out till the early hours of April 19.Police said more than 140 pending warrants were executed during the drive, including 27 permanent, 40 arrest and 73 bailable, signalling a push to clear backlog against absconders.In a parallel crackdown on drunk driving, 176 motorists were booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving under the influence. Vehicles were seized as part of the action.The operation also led to the arrest of one accused carrying an illegal knife, booked under the Arms Act. Four others were held for substance-related violations — three for consuming alcohol in public places and one for smoking cannabis.Preventive action was initiated against habitual offenders under provisions of the BNSS, with 68 individuals facing action. Police said these measures are aimed at curbing repeat offences and maintaining public order.Drone surveillance was in place in identified hotspots and shadow zones to enhance monitoring, while teams also carried out foot patrols in sensitive areas.Officials said those detained were warned against future criminal activity and made to fill dossiers as part of surveillance measures.
