Commercial tax raid at timber and plywood traders

INDORE: Anti-evasion wing of commercial tax department, Madhya Pradesh, conducted a raid at city based timber and plywood traders here on Saturday. Around Rs 49.47 lakh were recovered as due tax and penalty from the business premises of the firms.

A team of 30 officials carried out the operation. Dhar road based timber and plywood dealer Jatin enterprises; Harsh enterprises, Om enterprises, Shree Jee enterprises and Sai Kripa enterprises have been raided by the department.

On Saturday, Rs 13.82 lakh, Rs 15.43 lakh, Rs 6.90 lakh, Rs 4.67 lakh and Rs 7.54 lakh have been recovered by the department from the business premises of all the five stores respectively.

"We are suspecting that for past one year the dealer have been hiding their transaction details from the department. The stock recovered at the business premises of these firms is less than their record books. The traders have been evading entry tax for the past three years," said Madhya Pradesh commercial tax commissioner Raghvendra Singh.

Fake bills and diaries containing incrminating information have been recovered from the premises. Official sources have claimed that the firms were hiding their stocks.

Concerned firms are involved in the manufacturing and trading of plywood.
