Indore: The long-standing deadlock over operation of Kumedi Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) is likely to be resolved soon as two major agencies have shown keen interest in managing the terminal.
Although the construction of Kumedi ISBT was completed nearly a year-and-a-half ago, it remained non-functional as there was no agency to manage its operations. Previous attempts to appoint an agency failed as either no bidders came forward or they were unable to meet the technical requirements.
Indore Development Authority (IDA) officials said that the technical scrutiny of the current bids has been completed. The financial bids are scheduled to be opened soon, which will determine the final selection and the terms of operation.
"The activation of this terminal is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion within the city centre. Furthermore, it will serve as a vital hub for pilgrims during Simhastha Mahakumbh in Ujjain. A key feature of the ISBT is its direct connectivity with Indore Metro, ensuring seamless transit for passengers," IDA CEO Parikshit Zade said.
IDA officials are optimistic that with the appointment of an experienced agency, bus operations from Kumedi ISBT will commence shortly.
