‘Bhagirathpura tragedy a system failure’
Indore: Congress national spokesperson and social media chairperson Supriya Shrinate on Wednesday attacked central and state govts over Bhagirathpura water tragedy calling it a ‘system failure' rather than administrative negligence."On one hand, the govt makes grand claims of ‘Viksit Bharat' but on the other, people in Indore are dying after drinking poisonous water. Development claims are meaningless if the govt cannot provide the most basic necessity: clean drinking water," Shrinate said while addressing a press conference in Indore.

The Congress spokesperson questioned efficacy of ‘Jal Jeevan Mission', alleging that out of Rs 68,000 crore allocated for the scheme, only Rs 17,000 crore was spent so far. "The govt is busy with paper schemes instead of spending money on public facilities. Similar incidents occurred in Noida and Gujarat, yet the system learned no lessons," she said.Reaffirming the party's commitment to securing justice, she demanded resignation of MLA representing Bhagirathpura area, a case of murder (FIR) against the officials whose lack of supervision led to this negligence, and financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of each deceased person.Shrinate said that the high death toll severely tarnished image of India's cleanest city and exposed shortcomings of Indore Municipal Corporation and public health engineering department.
