Ujjain: A swarm of bees descended on a flock of sheep in Shajapur district, killing 24 animals and injuring two shepherds in Salkankhedi village under the Tilawad Maina police outpost.
Harteega Ram Dewasi, a shepherd from Rajasthan, was rushed to a hospital in Sehore. Initially critical, he is now said to be stable. His companion, Natha Ji, also suffered injuries in the attack. Tilawad Maina police outpost in-charge Ghanshyam Bairagi said a team, accompanied by a veterinary doctor, reached the spot after being alerted.
"Post-mortem of the dead sheep has been conducted and the matter is under investigation.
The injured shepherd was taken to Sehore hospital for treatment and his condition has improved," Bairagi said.
According to local officials, the shepherd arrived in the area around three months ago with a flock of nearly 350 sheep for grazing.
Natha Ji said the incident caused heavy losses to them. "We have suffered huge losses. Earlier, 220 sheep died after consuming adulterated turmeric. Now another 24 sheep have died in the bee attack," he said, urging authorities to provide financial assistance.
