INDORE: Indore Supporter Group has complained with Union minister of water resources and ministry of environment and forest for removal of director (impact assessment & rehabilitation) and chief vigilance officer (CVO) of Narmada Control Authority (NCA), Afroz Ahmed, for using fake PhD of Awadh University, Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh) to get the high-profile job.
The group has also demanded a review of all decisions taken by Ahmed during his seven-year tenure.
CBI has apparently investigated the matter and reportedly sent a report to Union ministry recommending criminal case against Ahmed for using fake degree. TOI had reported the matter on June 4.
Social activist and member of the group, Chinmay Mishra said, “Ahmed had submitted documents claiming he had got doctorate degree from environment department of Awadh University in 1986. During investigation, CBI found that environment department was set up in the university in 1994. Besides, the doctorate made no mention of date on certificate.”
Dinesh Kothari, member of the group, said, “Being director of rehabilitation of NCA, Ahmed is monitoring rehabilitation of oustees of all dams constructed on Narmada River. He claims that dam-affected people of Sardar Sarovar and other dams have been rehabilitated, but large number of people are waiting to be rehabilitated.” Amulya Nidhi, member of the group, said here in MP, dam oustees have gone on ‘Jal Satyagraha’ twice in for rehabilitation.
