INDORE: A video of four women kicking, punching and whipping another woman in public on the busy AB Road in Indore went viral on Monday, leading to an FIR for attempted murder.
Police say the incident took place at LIG Square on November 4, barely 1km from MIG police station. The victim filed a complaint on Monday and police arrested three of the accused.
Later in the evening, they were booked for attempted murder. After initial investigation, three others, including two men, were booked.
On the video, four women are seen thrashing the girl. They also whipped her with belts and smashed her mobile phone, shouting abuses, as a small crowd laughed, and took videos on mobile.
MIG police station in-charge Ajay Verma told TOI, "The women work together. On November 4, around 1am, they had an argument related to sharing of money. The argument heated up after which the three women beat the complainant."
Three of the accused - Megha Malviya, Teena Soni and Poonam Ahirwar - were arrested after the victim,
Priya Verma, filed a complaint in the evening. They were initially booked under IPC section 294 (uttering obscene words), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Later attempt-to-murder was added.
Once the investigation started, police found involvement of another woman and two men. "We have booked three others on similar charges," Verma said. Police are trying to ascertain the nature of the argument that triggered the vicious attack.
