2 killed, 10 injured in accident in Dewas

Indore: Two assistant secretaries of gram panchayats were killed and 10 persons injured after a truck rammed into their vehicle near Dewas in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ratlam SP Puneet Gehlot said that the accident occurred around 2 am when the group of assistant secretaries from Sailana janpad was on its way from Ratlam to Bhopal for gram panchayat secretaries’ maha sammelan scheduled on Wednesday.

Police said that the truck hit the vehicle from behind, leaving it badly damaged. There were 12 occupants, including the driver, inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The deceased were identified as Lakhan, assistant secretary of Kariya gram panchayat, and Hurji Maida, assistant secretary of Kangsi gram panchayat in Ratlam district.

All injured were admitted to Amaltas Hospital in Dewas. Officials said the condition of injured assistant secretaries Chauk Singh Damar and Pyarelal Kharadi remains critical. Another staffer, Kailash Pargi of Thikriya gram panchayat, suffered a fracture in his arm.
