115 borewells covered up in 3 days in Dewas

Indore: Taking cognizance of death of a three-year-old girl due to falling in an open borewell in Sehore, Dewas district administration has launched a drive to cover such pits by fixing responsibilities of owners and officials concerned.
“We have already imposed Section 144 of CrPC that leads legal action under section 188 of IPC on open borewell,” Dewas collector Rishav Gupta said.
“The administration has launched a drive in the wake of Sehore borewell incident. And in last three days, as many as 115 open borewells have been covered up. We have also lodged FIR against two persons for keeping borewells open that were very dangerous for the people, especially children, in residential areas,” he said.
“We have fixed responsibilities of owners as well as the officials in their departments digging any borewell, but laying it open” he said.
Following Patel Nagar temple tragedy in Indore, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, had asked all district collectors to prepare a list of wells, stepwells and borewells lying open and cover them to avert such incidents.
“We have given instructions to panchayats to cover open borewells and monitor the progress when any such matter come to fore,” zila panchayat CEO Vandana Sharma said.
In Ujjain, a three-year-old girl died after falling into an open borewell in 2021. “We have been carrying out a timely survey of borewells lying open along with taking required steps to cover it and fixing responsibilities in it,” collector Kumar Purushottam said.
Some of districts under Indore-Ujjain division however don’t have the status of number of borewells and how many of them are lying open there.
