IMPHAL: Manipur chief electoral officer (CEO) Rajesh Agrawal,while highlighting various activities taken up by his office for smooth conduct of the ensuing Manipur assembly election due early next year, has said that 6,588 vehicles shall be required for the polls.

Briefing reporters at a media conference at his office here on Tuesday, Agrawal said vehicle requirements have been worked out and 6,588 vehicles of different types shall be required for polling and security personnel on poll duty. He has also written to the chief secretaries of neighbouring Assam and

Nagaland

to extend cooperation in requisition of around 3,000 heavy vehicles for interstate transportation of

CAPF

, said the CEO.

Sector officers and sector police officers have been appointed and trained and are currently visiting the polling stations to identify vulnerable locations and voter segments. Steps also have been taken to identify history sheeters, trouble mongers and persons causing vulnerability. As a measure to curb pre-poll violence, 8,648 licensed arms have been deposited to the nearest police stations out of 25,299 till date.
