Currently the director & a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon at KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases & CEO of Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, Dr Raghu Ram was selected for the award for his decade-long contribution to surgical services in the Indian subcontinent.
"Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is always very proud of the accomplishments of its fellows and members, and of their outstanding service to the profession and Dr Raghu Ram's contributions to surgery exemplify this quality. The International Gold Medal is to mark his outstanding contribution to international surgery," said Dr Ian Ritchie.
Dr Raghu Ram has been organizing courses in Hyderabad for over 1,500 surgeons from the Indian sub continent on behalf of the RCSEd.
"It is an extremely humbling moment for me as I receive this award. More so on being the youngest recipient of the medal in its 508-year long history," said Dr Raghu Ram from Edinburgh.
The RCSEd is an international network with a membership of almost 20,000 surgeons, in 100 countries. Around 40% of the members of the institution are from outside England.
