Hyderabad: Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Ltd (TGRPDCL), the state's newly-formed third discom, has applied to the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) for a power distribution licence under the Electricity Act, 2003.
TGRPDCL was incorporated on March 11, 2026, as a govt-owned power distribution company aimed at improving electricity supply to critical sectors across the state.
The discom plans to supply power to the agriculture sector, lift irrigation schemes, Mission Bhagiratha water supply projects, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and selected municipal water connections.
Its responsibilities will include power procurement, providing new agricultural service connections, maintenance of transformers and power lines, and monitoring electricity consumption through meters.
The company said its focus would be on ensuring reliable and quality power supply.
The application documents are available for inspection at TGRPDCL offices in Hyderabad and at other discom offices. They are also accessible on the official websites.
TGERC has invited comments, suggestions and objections from the public on the proposal.
Submissions must be sent in writing by 5 pm on May 18, either through post or email to secy-tgerc@telangana.gov.in.
A public hearing on the application will be held on May 28 at 11 am at the TGERC office in Hyderabad.
The formation of TGRPDCL is expected to strengthen the state's power distribution network and improve electricity supply, particularly for agriculture and water services.
