HYDERABAD: A 45-year-old housewife was killed and five others suffered injuries after a truck ran amok at

at Kukatpally on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Padi Jyothi, a resident of Anjaneyanagar in Moosapet. The injured are Rama, Usha, Pushpalatha, Laxmi Jyothi and Kishore Reddy.

"All the injured persons are also residents of Anjaneyanagar. Onlookers told us that they were walking along the

water tank road, when a speeding truck, which appeared to be out of control, hit them," Kukatpally sub-inspector Majid Ali said. After the truck hit the victims, the driver jumped out of it and escaped. Police have launched a manhunt for the driver.

He said Padi Jyothi died on the spot, while the injured were shifted to

Omni Hospitals

in Kukatpally.

"We have registered a case against the truck driver for now," he added. Police booked the driver under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.
