HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Wednesday granted interim relief to Sultan-ul-Uloom Educational Society and Muffakham Jah College of Engineering & Technology, directing the All India Council for Technical Education to allow them to participate in counselling and admit students for the 2025–26 academic year. The court clarified that this relief is purely provisional and will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petitions currently pending before it. The Society runs the college. The institutions had approached the court challenging the AICTE’s decision to withdraw their approval for new admissions, citing nonsubmission of title deeds and building plans for the Banjara Hills campus. The matter came up before a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara. Opposing any relief, counsel for the AICTE contended that permitting admissions at this stage could adversely impact students if the institutions ultimately fail to secure a favourable order. They argued that while a few students might benefit temporarily, they would face uncertainty if the approval remains cancelled. However, the bench took note of the potential impact on 1,500 students. The court also considered that the institutions have been operational since 1980 and have received interim permissions to admit students since 2017.
Taking these factors into account, the bench allowed the interim relief, with a specific directive that the institutions must clearly disclose the provisional nature of admissions on their official websites to avoid confusion among prospective students. The court permitted the parties to file their responses and adjourned the matter to July 23 for further hearing.
