Speeding Ferrari ‘malfunctions’, rams multiple cars in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills; 5 injured, bizman booked
HYDERABAD: Five people were injured after a speeding Ferrari, owned by a city-based businessman, crashed into multiple vehicles on Road No 45 in Jubilee Hills on Sunday morning, allegedly due to brake failure.
The steering of the car also reportedly malfunctioned. Based on a complaint lodged by one of the victims, Jubilee Hills police booked a case against the luxury car owner, Kranthi Reddy (30), who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, and took him into custody.
Reddy was on his way to attend a wedding when the accident took place around 10:30 am. He and his wife were among those injured.
"The Ferrari driver has been booked under Section 281 of the BNS for rash and negligent driving and for endangering human lives. He was driving at high speed amid heavy traffic," said Srinivasulu Reddy, inspector, Jubilee Hills. "Preliminary investigation indicates a mechanical malfunction, including brake and engine issues. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash," he added.
Police said Reddy lost control of the car and first rammed into an electric pole. It then veered to the other side of the road, hitting two cars coming from the opposite direction. Apart from the Ferrari's front end, which was completely mangled in the collision, several other vehicles, including three two-wheelers, were also damaged in the chain collision, police added.
Three occupants of another car, identified as Upasana Saxena, Priya Saxena, and Anil Saxena, also sustained minor injuries in the incident. They were immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be stable. The crash, meanwhile, led to a traffic jam in the area, forcing police to divert vehicles to ease congestion.
"Traffic movement in the area was severely affected following the accident and remained disrupted for over an hour," the inspector said. He added that diversions were put in place, and normal flow was restored only after the damaged vehicles and debris were cleared from the road.
The Ferrari was identified as a California T, bearing registration number TS07HK8797. It was registered with the Rangareddy RTA in November 2017.
