SI’s bid to molest Sirisha drove her to suicide

HYDERABAD: Confirming that beautician A Vijayalakshmi alias Sirisha's cause of death was hanging by suicide, police arrested two persons including her employer Rajiv and common friend Sravan for abetting it on Friday.
At a press conference held at his office in Basheerbagh, city police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy narrated the entire sequence of events that led to suicides of Sirisha on June 13 and Prabhakar Reddy, sub-inspector of police, Kuknoorpally, Siddipet, a day later.
"The investigation conducted so far and the prima facie evidence have revealed that Sirisha felt humiliated by the acts of Sravan and Rajiv. The duo took her to SI Prabhakar Reddy in Kuknoorpally on the pretext of solving her problem, but after consuming alcohol, the SI made sexual advances towards her. She felt insulted for being treated by all of them as a characterless woman and we believe that the acts of the trio drove her to commit suicide," the police commissioner said.
As the SI had already ended his life, Banjara Hills police probing the Sirisha’s suicide case have altered the section from 174 of CrPC (suspicious death) to 306 (abettment to commit suicide) of the IPC and arrested Rajiv and Sravan on Friday for abetting the suicide of Sirisha.
While Sirisha ended her life by hanging at her office, RJ Photography, located at flat number 202 in Rockside Apartment, Sheikpet at around 4 am on June 13, the trigger for the sequence of tragic incidents occurred a fortnight ago at the same place.
On May 30, Rajiv’s girlfriend Tejaswini, an HR manager at a city-based software company, came to the studio and started abusing Sirisha for having an affair with the former. As the two women ended up hurling abuses at each other, Rajiv called Police Control Room and the trio went to the Banjara Hills police station. "At the police station, SI Srinivas counselled the trio. Tejaswini told the SI that they would return in two days if they could not settle the matter amicably through discussions. They never returned," the commissioner said.
Sravan and Rajiv left Banjara Hills PS and joined Sirisha at a coffee shop in Banjara Hills. Sravan then convinced Rajiv and Sirisha to meet sub-inspector(SI) Prabhakar Reddy for advice. When Sirisha agreed to meet the SI, Sravan called Prabahkar Reddy and the latter asked the trio to come to Kuknoorpally.
En route, the trio purchased alcohol and snacks in Hyderabad. The trio along with Prabhakar Reddy consumed alcohol at his Kuknoorpally quarter and, in a drunken condition, the SI attempted to sexually assault Sirisha, leading to her suicide a few hours later in Hyderabad.
