HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old Sanskrit lecturer of a city-based women's college has been arrested by Gangadhara police of Karimnagar for allegedly harassing his former classmate.
According to police, the complainant, who is a native of Karimnagar district, had completed post-graduation from
Osmania University in 2021 and the accused from Santosh Nagar was her classmate.
Since the time they were students, the accused has been stalking the victim and harassing her.
“However, recently his harassment intensified and the victim lodged a complaint with us,” Gangadhara police said.
In her complaint lodged with police a few days ago, the victim alleged that the accused had threatened to throw acid on her.
“The accused used objectionable language against the victim and even threatened to kill her by throwing acid on her. He even assaulted her few years ago when she was in the city to apper for exams,” police said.
Based on the complaint, police had registered a case against the accused under Sections 354-D, 506 of the IPC against the offender and kept tabs on his movements.
They also verified details of the accused from the college in Hyderabad, where he has been teaching as a part-time faculty.
After coming to know about the police case, the accused left the city to evade arrest.
On Tuesday afternoon, Gangadhara police received specific information about his movements and arrested him at Wanaparthy.
