The accused threatened Vijayalaxmi saying that Rs 500 fine will be imposed if she was found wearing gold jewellery and asked her remove the same so that they would wrap the ornaments in a paper in order to avoid the fine. Accordingly, the accused posing as police took the ornaments from the woman and instead of wrapping the jewellery in the paper, they wrapped a stone and handed it over to her. They then disappeared. Vijayalaxmi realised she was duped only after she checked the paper and found only a stone.
