At 10:01 am, the email was sent to the RGIA customer support email address from ‘muppallakshmanrao@mail2tor.email'. Claiming to represent the Tamil Liberation Organization (TLO), the sender alleged that LTTE-trained operatives on board would blow up Gulf Air flight GF-274 from Bahrain upon its landing at RGI Airport. The sender also levelled unsubstantiated allegations against certain Tamil Nadu politicians in the email.
The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) graded the email as a non-specific threat. Following a complaint by a GHIAL representative, RGI Airport police registered a case under Sections 351(4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
"CISF personnel conducted checks of the aircraft and passengers on the Gulf Air flight from Bahrain. No explosive substances were found. The threat was declared a hoax. The case will be forwarded to the cyber crime police station for investigation," said an RGI Airport official.
