Telangana municipal election results: Verdict reflects public dissatisfaction with Congress, says KT Rama Rao
HYDERABAD: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the municipal election results were a clear indication of growing public dissatisfaction with the ruling Congress govt and a renewed vote of confidence in the BRS. He alleged that despite intense pressure, misuse of money power and administrative machinery, and intimidation tactics by the ruling party, the BRS secured significant victories and emerged as the principal political force in ULBs.
"The municipal election verdict reflects growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress govt and validates the BRS' aggressive stand on people's issues, including unfulfilled promises and concerns of weaker sections, minorities, Dalits, tribals, women, and youth," he said. The former minister stated that the results clearly established the BRS as the primary opposition and the only political force capable of effectively challenging both the Congress in the state and the BJP at the national level.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, KTR said that local body election outcomes generally favoured ruling parties. However, he noted that the people of Telangana, unhappy with the Congress party, delivered a favourable verdict for the BRS. He recalled that in the recent gram panchayat elections, nearly 40% of panchayats and more than 4,000 sarpanch positions were won by BRS-backed candidates. He added that the municipal results have now further strengthened the party's position.
He alleged that the election witnessed large-scale misuse of power, including the distribution of money and administrative interference. However, he said voters rejected such tactics. He also referred to post-election political developments, accusing Congress leaders of attempting to lure winning members and influence outcomes through pressure tactics. He asserted that the BRS would continue to fight these efforts politically and legally.
On alliances with other parties, KTR said the CPI joined hands with the BRS in certain municipalities, including the Chennur constituency and Kyaathanpally municipality in Mancherial district, following the party's exposure of alleged irregularities in Singareni coal operations. He added that the BRS was open to working with secular forces to prevent Congress and the BJP from controlling local bodies. He said the BRS would carry this momentum into future elections, including upcoming corporation and district-level polls.
