HYDERABAD: Accepting defeat in the Assembly elections, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) said his party would honour the people's verdict and play a constructive role in the opposition benches.

He also gave an assurance that his party would fight for the people after giving sufficient time to the Congress party to fulfil its election promises to the people.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday evening, the BRS working president said though the results were disappointing, BRS leaders and workers should not get disheartened. "The results were not on expected lines but I appeal to BRS leaders, who worked hard for the party's victory in the past three months, not to get disheartened," he said while putting up a brave front.

Pointing out that winning and losing was part of the game, he said the election result was just a "speed breaker" and a "learning experience" and that his party would bounce back stronger.

In some seats like Devarkadra in Mahbubnagar, BRS candidates lost with narrow margins, he added. "We are surprised at Congress getting some seats in constituencies such as Peddapalle and Chennur, which fall in the Singareni belt and where a lot of developmental works were taken up,' KTR said.
