Rajamouli to bag Akkineni Nageswara Rao national award

HYDERABAD: Baahubali filmmaker, S S Rajamouli, will be conferred with the Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) national award for 2017, in the city on September 17, announced members of the Akkineni Foundation at an event held here on Friday.

is the 10th recipient of the award that honours those who have made a lasting impact on Indian cinema's landscape.

Earlier recipients of the award include Dev Anand (2005), Shabana Azmi (2006), Anjali Devi (2007),

Vyjayantimala Bali

(2008), Lata Mangeshkar (2009), K. Balachander (2010), Hemamalini (2011), Shyam Benegal (2012) and Amitabh Bachchan.

, said “In 2004, when Akkineni Nageswara Rao was conferred with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award, he got the idea of instituting a recognition for those who have dedicated their lives for the development of Indian cinema.“

ANR's son Nagarjuna Akkineni, who was also present at the event, said: “Both Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion have been path-breaking films and have made Telugu cinema proud not just in this region but all over the world.We are proud and honoured to announce that the 2017 ANR national award goes to him."
