Hyderabad: The cyber crime police have registered a case against a YouTube channel for allegedly publishing a defamatory video targeting Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
The case was filed following a complaint lodged by RV Pavan Maitreya of the BJP’s legal cell on Tuesday. According to the complaint, a video uploaded on June 26 by the channel ‘Bharat Yuvasena’ made baseless and derogatory allegations, accusing the minister of colluding with political rivals. The content was allegedly intended to malign the minister’s reputation, the complainant said.
Investigators have received both a copy of the video and its web link for examination.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under section 67 of the Information Technology Act and section 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to forgery intended to harm reputation.
Cyber crime officials said they will be approaching Google to obtain the details of the individual who uploaded the video and will proceed further based on the findings.
