Owners await payment for acquisition of Old City land

Hyderabad: Property owners across Doodh Bowli, Fateh Darwaza and other areas of the Old City — where structures were brought down to make way for road widening works — are still awaiting compensation.
Owners claim that for the last two years, they have been making rounds of offices, but to no avail. Worse, documents and multiple representations submitted with officials have also not helped them get the money they are entitled to against the land acquisition.
Some of the owners said that they moved in with relatives and gave up their property in 2020, in the hope of receiving compensation.
“My property was acquired with an assurance that I will be paid compensation the very next day. But so far nothing has been done to compensate me. This is nothing but cheating,” said Parveen Sultana, a property owner speaking on behalf of others like Qudsia

Begum

and

Mazhar Ansari

. They parted with their property for development of a passage at

Himmatpura

.
“We have submitted all necessary documents for compensation. But still there is no official communication in this regard. We were told to cooperate in the development, while our properties were being acquired, but now they have left us to suffer,” said another property owner,

Mohammed Taher

.
Town planning officials, when contacted, refused to comment on the matter.
