Owaisi tears Waqf Bill in Lok Sabha
Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday tore the copy of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill-2025 in the Lok Sabha, terming it unconstitutional and aimed at further marginalising Muslims.Speaking during a discussion on the bill, Owaisi called the bill an attack on the faith and devotion of Muslims. "BJP wants to create riots between communities through this bill. The Modi govt declared a war against the largest minority community in the country through this bill. This war is not on the bodies of Muslims but on their independence, social and educational status, their citizenship, madrasas, masjids and dargahs," he said.Owaisi quoted various provisions proposed for amendments in the Bill and said they violate Articles 14, 15, 25, 26, and 29 of the Constitution. When Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists boards can have only their respective religion members on the board, why are non-Muslims being thrust into the waqf board and central council, he asked.
