HYDERABAD: Two weeks after the tainted Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) doctors were reinstated by the state government, one of them, Dr K Sarat Chandra, has put in his papers. The cardiologist who has been associated with Nims for more than a decade had been under suspension for the last six months for facilitating the illegal stay of a double murder accused in the premier teaching hospital.
Going by the rules, faculty at NIMS said that the doctor should not have been reinstated . However, as he was reinstated overlooking the rules, he cannot be relieved now as the enquiry against him is still pending, they said. There are two pending cases against him in the high court and Lokayukta.
Revoking the suspension orders, the government had withdrawn all the decision making powers from Dr Chandra and he was posted to work under a professor. He was told not to handle the case sheets pertaining to S Jayaram Reddy, the under trial whose 49-day stay was facilitated by Dr Chandra at NIMS. He is said to have an offer from a corporate hospital.
