HYDERABAD: Health minister T Harish Rao on Friday accused the Centre of neglecting the most important vaccination programme in fight against Covid-19 even as Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya advised states to procure their own vaccines.

After the spurt in Covid-19 cases countrywide, Telangana government had urged the Centre to supply more vaccine doses. With no response from Centre, the state has decided to procure 15 lakh doses in collaboration with Hyderabad pharma firm Biological E, the minister said.

“On one hand, the central government is issuing alerts to states citing increase in Covid-19 cases and on the other, it is neglecting the supply of vaccine. Many state ministers who requested for additional supply of vaccines were told that there is no vaccine supplier and states must purchase vaccines themselves,” Harish Rao said on Friday. The Union health minister on Friday held a video conference on Covid-19 situation and preparedness in various states and Union territories.

Harish Rao said Telangana is number 1 in the country in administering precautionary dose. “However, the supply of vaccines from the Centre to the state has stopped and the state has run out of stocks. Vaccination has stopped due to this,” he said.
