Nepali gang behind Kowkoor dacoity busted, key accused nabbed
Hyderabad: In a breakthrough that capped weeks of investigation, Malkajgiri police have arrested the key accused in the violent dacoity at an elderly couple's bungalow in Kowkoor under Jawaharnagar police station limits. The arrest led to recovery of part of the stolen property. On May 12, Jawaharnagar police had received a complaint from Murali Mohan Narsipuram, 68, an international arbitrator residing at Golf Enclave. He alleged that their domestic helps, Rajesh and Sabina, along with associates, tied up the couple, sedated them with an intoxicant and fled with 60 tola gold ornaments, 15 kg silver, $3,000 and two mobile phones.Preliminary probe identified the main accused as Meena and Rajesh, Nepali nationals working in India for several years. The duo, along with their associates, conspired to target the victims as they are an elderly couple.According to police commissioner B Sumathi, Meena facilitated the employment of her associate, Sabeena alias Sunitha, as a domestic help and introduced Rajesh as her husband on April 25.Once settled in the servant quarters, the gang studied the family's routine before striking."On the pretext of celebrating Sabeena's birthday, the gang gathered on May 11 night," a cop said.Inside the bungalow were Rajesh, Sabeena, Meena, Daniel Charoh alias Chang and Samrat, while Biswal alias Viswal, Kamal Bahadur Chalaune, Jankar Bahadur Chalaune alias Shankar and Kiran waited outside. After committing the robbery, they escaped in an auto and scooter, later abandoning the scooter at Yapral.Six special teams from law and order, special operations team and central crime station wings analysed technical evidence and CCTV footage from 255 cameras. Acting on alerts, police arrested Sabina, Biswal, Kamal Bahadur and Jankar Bahadur on May 16 near Rathifile bus station in Secunderabad. On June 5, Meena, Rajesh, and Kiran, also a native of Nepal, and Daniel, a native of Darjeeling, were caught at Bowenpally and remanded the next day."We have recovered 38 tola gold and nine kilos of silver from the accused. Among them, Meena was earlier involved in a property offence at Moinabad police station in 2023," DCP Ch Sridhar said.Following the incident, police launched a citywide domestic help verification drive, recording details of 39,270 workers, including 1,276 Nepalis.
