Hyderabad: NDRF teams were put on alert in Mulugu district, and officials in various other districts cautioned people against going out unless it was absolutely necessary due to the heavy rains. On Wednesday, authorities in Bhadradri Kothagudem district urged people not to venture towards lakes or streams to take selfies, as the flow of water could be dangerous. Collector Jitesh V Patil called for a high alert among officials to tackle a flood situation if it arises. Control rooms were made operational for the public to contact officials if necessary. SP Rohit Raj said a DRF team was kept on alert, and the public could dial 100 for help in a flood situation.
Rainfall in Mulugu district on Wednesday morning was 329 mm, with Venkatapur receiving 41 mm, Eturnagaram receiving 67 mm, Venkatapuram receiving 38 mm, Mangapet 60 mm, and Mulugu 40 mm. NDRF teams were briefed by district authorities about where problems could arise due to flooding and how to effectively handle the situation. Some panchayats were also trained on how to respond during emergencies. In the Eturunagaram mandal parishad office, an NDRF coordination meeting was conducted, and panchayat secretaries in four mandals were asked to alert the public about any possible flood situation.
Forest officials asked the public not to venture into forests to reach waterfalls, as carrying out a rescue mission becomes tough in the absence of mobile signals deep within forest areas.
In Rajanna Sircilla district, a 10-member DRF team was deployed to assist in case of an emergency. On Wednesday, the team carried out exercises at a lake at Nampally village near Vemulawada. Authorities in Suryapet district asked fishermen not to go fishing in the lakes in view of the heavy rains. A police control room with the number 8712686026 was set up.
In Khammam, police diverted traffic and asked motorists not to venture towards the road near Naidupet Munnera bridge, which was inundated due to heavy rain. On Wednesday, Leeja in Jogulamba Gadwal district received 55 mm of rainfall, Ichoda in Adilabad received 39 mm, and Venkatapur in Jogulamba Gadwal district received 38 mm from 8.30 am to 6 pm.
IMD forecasted ‘very likely’ light to moderate rain or thundershowers at some isolated places across the state on Thursday.
