Hyderabad: The
Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for conducting elections for two Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seats in Telangana to be filled under the MLA quota.
The seats fell vacant after BRS leaders Kadiyam Srihari and Padi Kaushik Reddy resigned as MLC after getting elected as MLAs in the recently concluded assembly polls.
Telanagana chief electoral officer (CEO) Vikas Raj said, “The commission has decided to hold separate bye-elections to the legislative council of Telangana for two seats by the members of respective legislative assembly to fill the vacancies.”
Both BRS MLCs — Kadiyam Srihari and Koushik Reddy — resigned on December 9, 2023, though their term was up to November 30, 2027.
An election notification would be issued on January 11, while the last date for filing nominations would be January 18 .
Scrutiny of nominations would be held on January 19 and last date for withdrawal of candidatures January 22. Elections would be held on January 29. TNN
