Telangana assembly elections 2018: Man held for taking selfie inside polling station in state
HYDERABAD: A person who took selife while casting his vote landed in trouble at Rajendranagar after Cyberabad police registered a case against him on Friday during the polling for Telangana assembly elections. In an another case, Information Technology minister K Taraka Rama Rao took selfie and photographs along with polling staff inside a polling booth at Banjara Hills only on the request of polling staff but no case was registered in this case by Hyderabad police.
In case of Rajendranagar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shamshabad Zone) Prakash Reddy said that Shiva Shankar took selfie while casting the vote at Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Shiva was booked under section 188 of (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) IPC. He was taken into custody by police after polling staff alerted them.
In case of Banjara Hills, a video went viral where in a woman sitting inside the polling booth after completion of entering the details of KTR requested to take selfie with the minister on her phone. KTR obliged her request and at one point of time he himself took the selife with her on her phone. Later, few more polling staff sitting on another table right next to the EVM enclosure, they too requested for taking photograph. KTR obliged their request too. It was later on, he went near the EVM and cast his vote.
When contacted Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar to know whether any case is going to be registered for taking photographs inside the polling booth by KTR and other polling staff, he told TOI that he will take legal opinion. "He did not take photograph while casting the vote. Still I will take legal opinion," CP said. It is learnt that Hyderabad police are not going to register any case as they feel at most it can be considered as Model Code of Conduct violation.
