Relatives who identified the body at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary told the police that Salauddin, who was engaged to Fathima about two years ago, had broken the engagement and married a richer girl.
And about a month ago, Fathima got married to Fazal-ur-Rahman. The couple were staying at Asadbabanagar in Golconda.
Despite having married another woman for money, Salauddin continued to remain infatuated with Fathima and made many advances, Fathima’s relatives told The Times of India. Salauddin was said to be angry with Fazal who “came in between Fathima and him.’’
With an intention of murdering Fazal, Salauddin went to the former’s house in Golconda on February 18. Under some pretext, Salauddin took Fazal on his scooter to a secluded spot near the Golconda Fort and gave him a drink which had poison in it. Fazal-ur-Rahman died and Salauddin hid the body under some bushes and escaped. After the body was identified by relatives, the Golconda police arrested Salauddin on Monday.
