Man gets life for sexually assaulting 16-year-old niece

Hyderabad: The LB Nagar court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man who sexually assaulted his 16-year-old niece to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 22,000.

The judge also sentenced the man’s brother and mother to three years in prison and fined them Rs 6,000.

The offence took place in 2021 within the Balapur limits, while the girl was staying with her grandmother. During her stay, one of her two uncles raped her. Upon learning of this, the main perpetrator, his mother and brother intimidated the victim. The three accused forced her to take medication, resulting in a miscarriage.

After conducting a trial based on the chargesheet filed by the investigating officer, the court found the survivor’s two uncles and her grandmother guilty.

Subsequently, based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the Balapur police registered a criminal case for 376 (rape) of IPC and violation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (Pocso) Act.

In the verdict, the judge sentenced the prime accused to life imprisonment, while the other two were given three years’ imprisonment.
