Locals oppose property tax hike

Cantonment Board’s triennial revision of the

property tax

for 2018-2021 has not gone down well among the residents as they claim the SCB does not even provide basic amenities to them.

On February 24, the SCB revised tax for domestic properties at between Rs 1.20 and Rs 1.80 per square feet and Rs 4 per square feet to Rs 12 per square feet for commercial properties.

Demanding immediate withdrawal of the revision, Telukunta Arunjyothi Satish Gupta, a social activist said, “If the SCB needs money for development, it should seek pending Rs 500 crore from the Centre and Rs 80 crore from the state government.” TNN
