Jeevan mortgaged self-respect of Congress workers: Revanth
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy alleged that Jeevan Reddy had mortgaged the self-respect of Congress workers of Jagtial, who had stood by him for over 40 years, by joining hands with BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao. He said the Congress had given him the utmost respect and that party workers had worked hard for his victory in Jagtial in the last assembly elections. The party also offered him to contest from the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat, but he chose to contest from Nizamabad instead.
"It is unfortunate that a leader with over four decades of experience will now stand before KCR with folded hands. The party assured him and his family a political future. This is not correct for his stature," Revanth Reddy said at Jagtial Congress leaders' meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was held as Jeevan Reddy is set to join the BRS at a public meeting on April 20. The CM held discussions with Congress leaders and ministers from Jagtial, including Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Adluri Laxman Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, MLA Sanjay Kumar, and Jagtial DCC president Nandaiah.
Revanth said he had not uttered a single word against Jeevan Reddy and had shown him due respect, even as the latter was making efforts to quit the party. He added that. Even in the recent municipal elections, the party had given tickets to candidates recommended by him. The CM said that Jeevan Reddy was joining hands with KCR at a time when the Congress was fighting against the BRS leader. During the meeting, the CM enquired about leaders and key workers who might be joining the BRS. Local leaders informed him that although Jeevan Reddy was leaving, many Congress leaders would remain with the party. They also expressed confidence that the party would win the next Assembly election.
