Intermediate exams begin smoothly in Telangana with 97% attendance

Hyderabad: About 97% of 5.14 lakh students appeared for the Intermediate public examinations on Wednesday.

The first day of the exams was conducted without any untoward incidents. Like last year, a grace time of five minutes was extended to students this year as well to accommodate latecomers.


"No malpractice cases were booked on Wednesday," a release from the board read. It added that observers were sent to examination centres in Medchal, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Jangaon, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Siricilla, Bhupalpally, Warangal, Karimnagar, Asifabad, Adilabad, Mulugu, Medak, Khammam and Yadadri by the board, and the examination was conducted peacefully.

As per the details released by the board, a total of 498,695 candidates appeared for their second language exam and 15,903 remained absent.

Stray incidents of students missing exams as they turned up late, even after completion of the grace time, were reported from across the state.

In a few cases, police turned good Samaritans as they helped students reach the exam centres on time. In one such case, a constable helped a candidate, who reached the wrong exam centre in Jeedimetla in the city, go to the right exam centre by dropping her on his two-wheeler.
