ICICI Bank staffer held for killing customer
HYDERABAD: Police have arrested an ICICI Bank investment manager for murdering one of his customers, a retired IICT employee.The Osmania University police on Monday arrested35-year-old Anurag Dubey, an investment manager at ICICI Bank's Habsiguda branchand his relative Praveen Dubey from Mumbai for the murder of retired IICTemployee, A Raghuraman.On April 27, the OU police were informed about the suspicious death of Raghuraman, a retired section officer of IICT, at his flat in Concrete Harmony apartment of Habsiguda.Police foundRaghuraman hanging fom the window grill with a rope and a tiny whisky bottle inhis hand. A case was booked under Section 174 (Suspicious death) of the CriminalProcedure Code (CrPC).Raghuraman's wife had gone to the US on March1 to visit her two children, both software engineers.Police wereshocked to find that the postmortem report stated that the victim was sedatedand then smothered to death.During the probe, police discovered thatRaghuraman made several phone calls to Anurag Dubey prior to the incident. Hewas immediately taken into custody.During interrogation, AnuragDubey confessed that Raghuraman gave him Rs 45 lakhs cash to invest in mutualfund schemes and fixed deposits of the bank in January.
"Prior tothis, Raghuraman had made some investments by transferring the money from hisaccount to Anurag's account. By suggesting good investment schemes, Anuraggained the trust of the former IICT employee," OU inspector K Ashoksaid.When the senior citizen gave a huge amount of cash, theinvestment manager got a wicked thought to use the money for his own benefit asthere was no documentary proof of him handling the cash.However,when Raghuraman began pressuring Dubey to give documents related to hisinvestments, he decided to eliminate the senior citizen.On April 26,Anurag along with his brother-in-law Praveen Dubey reached Raghuraman's house.En route, the duo procured a rope, 20 diazepam tablets and a Sula wine bottle.Anurag mixed the sleeping pills in water, added it to the wine and gave it toRaghuraman."After Raghuraman fell unconscious, the duo smothered himto death using a pillow and then hung him with the rope to make it look like asuicide," deputy commissioner of police (DCP), East Zone, Y Gangadharsaid.After the murder, the duo stole Rs 6.5 lakh cash fromRaghuraman's house and fled from the spot.Police recovered Rs 45lakh from the possession of Anurag Dubey and dispatched a team to Mumbai torecover remaining stolen cash from Praveen's house.The accused wereproduced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
