HYDERABAD: A housewife committed suicide at her house in

Ghatkesar

on Thursday due to

dowry harassment

by her husband and in-laws. The victim, N Mounika, 23, married Narsing Rao on August 26, 2016. On Thursday, Narsing Rao's family called Mounika's father E Basvaiah to Ghatkesar police station. After enquiring from relatives, Basvaiah found out that Mounika has ended her life, Ghatkesar inspector P Raghuveer Reddy said.

In a police complaint, Basvaiah stated that at the time of wedding, he gave 3.5 lakh cash and gold worth 3 lakh to Narsing Rao's family as dowry. He also gave 20,000 for wedding arrangements. "Basvaiah alleged that after the wedding, Narsing and his family - Yadagiri, Savithri, Maschender and Suvarna - harassed Mounika physically and mentally for additional dowry," the inspector added.

Mounika committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan, the inspector said. Based on Basvaiah's complaint, police registered a
