HYDERABAD: Two vehicle thieves were arrested in a joint operation by task force sleuths along with Charminar and Chandrayanagutta police on Thursday. From the two accused - who were arrested in separate cases - stolen two-wheelers worth 20 lakh were recovered.

The first accused, Syed Talib, 20, is a welder from Mustafa Nagar in Falaknuma. His associates, Quddus from Bandlaguda and Aqeel from King's Colony in Shastripuram, are on the run. According to police, Talib, a school dropout, and Quddus were close friends.

As their daily earnings were not sufficient, Talib and Quddus hatched a plan to commit two-wheeler thefts.

The duo stole nine two-wheelers from different areas during the last few months.

After committing the offences, the accused sold the vehicles to Aqeel for further disposal.

In another case, Syed Samad, 20, an electrician from Talabkatta in Bhavani Nagar was arrested.

According to task force deputy commissioner of police (DCP) G Chakravarthy, Samad started committing bike thefts to fulfil his passion to drive motorbikes. In the recent past, Samad stole four bikes parked from Chandrayangutta and LB Nagar areas.

Samad abandoned some of the stolen bikes after riding them for a while. Police officials identified the accused persons, based on CCTV camera footage at different crime scenes.

The arrested accused persons will be produced before court for judicial remand and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the absconding accused.
