Hyderabad: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) launched a ‘Therapy Dog Programme’ featuring four toy poodles to help passengers de-stress as they transit through security and departure lounges.
Operating from Friday through Monday, the certified therapy dogs and their trained handlers are stationed for four hours each day at key touchpoints throughout both the domestic and international departure areas. Passengers who choose to engage may enjoy gentle petting sessions, a “fetch play” area with small toys, and a dedicated selfie zone. The dogs interact only with willing travellers and rest between shifts to ensure their well-being.
Airport authorities advise passengers to approach the dogs calmly, follow the handler’s instructions, and refrain from feeding or startling them. Those with allergies are asked to keep a safe distance, and families must supervise children at all times. By offering these canine companions, the airport aims to reduce anxiety, boost mood, and create a welcoming atmosphere for all travellers.
