HYDERABAD: The A P High Court on Tuesday sought to know from the centre as to what it was doing on the issue of the CBI probing the Satyam scam though the state government announced four days ago that it has recommended an enquiry by the central investigative agency.
Justice N V Ramana, while hearing a petition filed by a Kerala-based organisation, Stock Investors Hub, that sought the transfer of Satyam probe to the CBI from the CB-CID, said he was not willing to believe what the media is saying about the Union government's response in this regard. "Show me proof that the centre has handed over the probe to the CBI and the latter's acceptance of the same," the judge told the advocates representing the central government and the CBI. CBI counsel T Niranjan Reddy told the court that he had received a fax message on Monday night confirming the entrusment of the probe to CBI and the same may be notified and published in the gazette within the next two days.
The judge also verified with the Sebi counsel M S Ramachandra Rao the status of the Sebi's probe into this fraud. The counsel replied that Sebi got fresh material after questionning the accused in the jail recently and may seek permission of the court to question the accused again after reviewing the material. He also informed the court that Sebi's probe is a different probe under the Sebi Act and the CBI's probe is altogether different from this and hence both would go on simultaneously. The judge also inquired about the investigations launched by registrar of companies, serious fraud investigation office and the CID.
"I will not close this writ petition till a confirmation is reached to this court that the CBI has started it probe into the issue," the judge said and posted the matter to Thursday.
