HYDERABAD: The
Telangana HC on Wednesday directed the regional film censor board to submit a report by Thursday on the Telugu movie ‘Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu’ directed by
Ram Gopal Varma.
The bench of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A Abhishek Reddy announced the decision while hearing a public interest litigation filed by M Indrasena Chowdary, who raised objections over the content and title of the movie.
According to him, the movie promotes hatred between the two dominant communities — Kammas and Reddies — in the two Telugu states. Kammas have been shown in a poor light in the movie, he said.
A similar petition filed by Praja Santhi party founder K A Paul was heard by Justice P Naveen Rao. Paul’s counsel contended that several scenes in the movie allegedly portray Paul in a negative way and said that the release of this movie needs to be restrained. The judge sought a report from the censor board regarding this issue as well.
The bench, while hearing Indrasena’s plea, directed the censor board to furnish them the copy of the same report. The movie is slated to be released soon, but censor certificate is yet to be issued.
