HYDERABAD: To improve security for girls studying in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and model schools in the state, the government has decided to install CCTVs and siren systems in schools.
This decision was taken during a review meeting on Telangana Residential Educational Institutions Society (TREIS), KGBVs and model schools chaired by Telangana deputy chief minister and education minister Kadiyam Srihari with school education department officials at the Secretariat on Monday.

Speaking at a media conference, Kadiyam said that the government has sanctioned Rs 239 crore towards development of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), KGBVs and model schools. Kadiyam added that additional Rs 89 crore was sanctioned to complete the construction of classrooms and toilets in social welfare schools. “We would also construct compound walls in all schools and hostels. We will also install biometric system, construct kitchen sheds, roads in all model schools,” said Srihari, adding that these facilities would be used for implementation of KG to PG programme scheduled to begin from next year.
Total 391 KGBVs house about 71,560 girls and 182 model schools about 85,000 girls. Kadiyam stated that Rs 50 crore for KGBVs and Rs 100 crore for model schools was sanctioned to complete the developmental works by March 31, 2016. The minister further said that KGBVs which have been working under various directorates would be brought under one ambit.
